Description:
California sculptor Robert Cremean (b. 1932) is highly-regarded for his mixed-media sculptures that explore the human form. His works are metaphorical, autobiographical, spiritual reminders that each individual matters, and that each of us struggles to find our place as time passes ultimately ending in death.
His work is featured on these banners shown against a stark white background with the splayed arms of the figure standing out in contrast. The figure itself is reflected in white, with an alternate version of its wooden self seen below. The sculpture is a study in contrast and opposition. The warm, brown wood juxtaposed with the cool, smooth white surfaces. The grimacing pale-lipped face of the upright figure with the flaccid, expressionless face of its melting reflection.
The title of the exhibition and the exhibition dates in red and black are the only text which punctuate the simplicity of the banner. “Skinned/The Art of Robert Cremean/May 25 – September 9”. Both sides of this banner are identical

About the Artist:
American sculptor Robert Cremean (b. 1932) was born in Ohio, but is most associated with California where he has lived and worked for over four decades. Cremean studied at the renowned Cranbrook Academy, and further developed his work as a Fulbright scholar in Italy. His mixed media works focus largely on the human body and address concepts of life’s ultimate trajectory.
